The Vacation That Sort of Wasn’t…

My family went on a ski vacation in February to Sugar Mountain, North Carolina. It was beautiful and, after the first day, pleasant enough to enjoy. However, since I was trying to finish edits on my first novel, tentatively titled Echo, most of my vacation was spent working on tightening and clarifying long, descriptive chapters.

I went out during the days with my family—sledding, tubing, shopping—but in the evenings after dinner, I crawled up to the loft and worked on my novel. The peacefulness of that little space made up for the steep climb I had to make up a rickety ladder. I disappeared so often and for so long that my brother-in-law thought I had brought school papers that I was working on. My sister-in-law had to explain that I was working on a book I was writing. And she complimented me by telling him that the first chapter (which the original opening can be found on this site) was really good!

I guess I have moved into the realm of a real writer when I take my computer with me to write or edit while riding six, eight, or ten hours to get to our vacation destination. Though I did work a lot while on my trip, I also spent some quality time with my family. See? Pictures!

About tracieroberts

It's been a few years since I wrote this profile and, in that time, I've grown as a writer and a person. I still love to read, but writing is now my passion (behind my God and my family). I still teach English (in my 17th year), and I still live in Florida with my husband, two daughters, and multiple pets. What has changed is that I've published my first New Adult novel, ECHO, with a second in the series on the way, as well as a couple of novellas and that stand-alone, now titled Second Chance. 2015 is going to be a busy year for me! I hope you hang with me and see where this year takes us. ~Be blessed.
